low oil pressure..help!
oil pressure is just above the red line at idle then goes up if I rev the motor. Some history is I just got the car back from a heads/cam install. The guy put a used SS oil pump in there WITHOUT ME KNOWING till after he finished buttoning it up. So it has new port and polished ls6 heads and a mild cam. The pressure was fine when I gave it to him.
Im hoping that its just an oil pump and me and a buddy can throw a new one in but thats in a few days. How safe is it to drive till then if I keep the pressure out of the red area? Thanks guys

Are you willing to drive it ill get it fix ASAP. Dont want to hurt it.
If your running that low you may damage the top end.

Engine oil level sensor is in the left side of the oil pan.
If you can get an oil pressure gauge tools required
J21867 pressure gauge and hose assembly
J42907 oil pressure testing tool
take oil filter off and use J42907 this test will let you no if pumps dead.
Its a filter plug start engine, run engine briefly (10-15) seconds and verify low or no oil pressure on the vehicle gauge or light.
I have the GM F-platform books all 4 GOOD LUCK>>

so is the sending unit behind the intake manifold on top of the motor? drivers side?

I'd go ahead and change the oil pump.... or send it back to whoever did it the first time.... I'd NEVER use a used oil pump.... there's just certain parts I'd prefer to have new... I kno my oil pressure is good, but when I do my head/cam swap I'm changing the pump for sure with a new upgraded one...

I definitely wouldn't be driving it until you get it fixed....don't wanna spin a bearing. The sending unit is on the drivers side behind the intake. He might have pinched the o-ring for the oil pump too as that will cause low pressure. I would yank that oil pump out of there and put a known good one in there myself, on his dime.

Thats the plan, gonna swap it next week, Im so mad at this dude for doing that, I mean, who puts a USED pump in a new build? He says now that the pump is new from the dealership but thats BS cause he didnt even charge me for the pump, he knew I wouldnt pay for a used one.
