    Loud gas smell

    I have a '94 Trans Am GT convertible. I noticed that after a long cruise, I smell fuel towards the rear of the car after shutting it down. I have looked for leaks, but couldn't find any. Could it be the cannister or is there more to it?....

    Could be a lot of things...start simple with replacing the fuel cap, check the fuel lines around the fuel filter..

    does your fuel economy suffer, because if it does, you know you have some sort of leak

    I get about 19 mpg average, so I guess theres not a leak anywhere.

    Sounds like(smells)there is a leak in the vapor recovery system or a fuel line .You need to check closely when you can get it to smell-may just be a line come loose or a bad gas cap.Anyway a gas leak is pretty serious.

    No, the cats are intact. It only smells like fuel after it has had a long run.
