LID
The top of my air lid is rubbing on my hood. It seems to be getting worse and worse. Now I have paint missing on my hood and the lid is all scratched up. How can I fix it or what should I change it out with?
Suspension: Lower control arms (Spohn), Drive shaft safety loop, Torque arm (Edlebrock), Strut tower brace, Panhard Bar (BMR)
Under the Hood: Smooth bellows, Lid, Catch can, LT Headers, ORY, AIR/EGR delete, Poly engine/transmission mounts,
Exterior: Painted brake calipers (Red), Halo “Spyder” Headlights w/matching parking/turn signals (Black)

There have been similar threads about this issue. I THINK you have to pull the lower box and take washers out from the lower box between it and the radiator core support. I could be wrong.

I just found your old thread. Did you check your bellows like last time?

I was lookin for that old thread. I'm usin my iPod though so that may be why. I will try it though. Is there another thing to use with similar functional results with less rubbing, IF I can't fix it.

What type of lid do you have. Some aftermarket lids are taller then others.

You might have to get a factory lid. I know the SS Camaros didn't have underhood insulation, so that's not the culprit. And you already adjusted your hood, so that can't be it either.

Something I've just thought of: have you checked your filter? I ask as some air filters are thicker than others. I have noticed this at my job with some of the air filters. I will replace an air filter and the newer filter gasket is thicker than the one that came out and the box will be a total bitch to close.

That is what I was going to say. When I got my car, mine did the same thing. I have an SLP lid and was using a K&N filter. But, when I switched to WIX paper filter, it didn't rub anymore.

I do have K&N and it is pretty thick. I may switch and see what that does. Only thing is, it never rubbed until I put the smooth bellow in. I'm not changing that out so I am gonna try the wix and see what happens.

If you still have the original bellows, hold that next to the smooth one. The smooth one could be longer, thus pushing up/forward on the whole airbox assembly.

You might have to trim it back where it meets the lid.

I was thinkin that today when I had it all apart. The bottom of the lid buttons up to the bottom of the MAF but the top does not. It seems like it could be pushed in another 1/8-1/4".

Here's what you do: take some WD-40, spray some on your index finger and wipe the inside of the bellows. Then install and watch to see if the top of the MAF slides in further. If so, there ya go.

Everything with the bellow fits perfectly. Its the top part of the lid itself that doesnt button up. Only the bottom pushes all the way back.
