Key stuck in ignition

sooo i started my ta and shut it off and tried to pull the key out and it would turn the whole way back to come out i could only start the car and turn it off the key would go no father... HOWever i have figured out if i flick the key back real fast every now an then i can get my key back out WTF is wrong lol any help much appreciated

It really can only be 2 things, a worn out key or a bad ignition lock cylinder/damaged release button(M6 trans)

I think it's a combination of both the key and lock cylinder time for new ones

I meant mechanically the key or lock cylinder.

Do you have an auto trans?
There is an auto trans park lock cable from the shifter to the steering column and only allows you to turn the key all the way back and out when the shifter is in park. You could try wiggling the shifter next time it happens to see if that helps remove the key. If that what it is, you may need to adjust the shift cable (between the shifter and trans) so that the shifter goes all the way into park properly. Or you may need to remove the center console and look at the shifter and clean and lube up the shift lock mechanism.
