Pewter- 1999 Camaro SS-M6 #1775
Just a little ANOYING....
Ok its not a big problem but it gets pretty annoying! on my Camaro the TRIP odometer resets is self automaticly. as long as the car is on it will keep accurate numbers and work just fine but if i turn the car off after driving and come back a few hours later and fire it up it will start over at 0.0
i dont know what to do about this!1999 Camaro SS/ Pewter/ #1775 - LS1 6-speed - Predator 3 Custom Tune - Pro 5.0 - LS7 Clutch - 3.90's - Koni's - Strano Springs and Sway Bars - SFC's - Full UMI Chassis and Suspension - LS6 Intake PnP TB - ARH LT's and Kitty Ran Away - Magnaflow.

I'd have the battery load tested to be sure that's not it. Here's the GM TSB# 99-08-49-009

Let me guess. Your needles also jump up too when you go to start the car.

Gauges sweep isn't normal - still think it's the battery, most auto parts stores will load test it free...eliminate that first. It doesn't need to be below 32*

thanks! i will have it load tested and get it fixed. so does that mean the baterry is low? because it starts and runs fine, and everything else works good. ya i thought gauge sweep was normal, my neighbors grand am does the same thing.
thanks!Last edited by Tyler_LS1; 10-08-2006 at 11:08 AM.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but I'm having a similar problem. I know it's got something to do with the battery voltage because it's being very flaky. Sometimes when I start the car the voltage shows a little above 13 (normal) but most times it's either right next to the orange (danger zone) or halfway between it and 13.
Both the battery and the alternator have been checked (supposedly) at the same shop I've taken the car to for a few years now, and they told me both were just fine.
I first suspected the alternator because it was doing some weird things that it had done before when the alt was on the way out (btw I'm on the third one in five years), and when they told me it was fine I didn't know what to think. And of course after I pick it up, for a few weeks the voltage didn't ever get low. Then it did every once in awhile, and now it seems to be low on varying occasions, sometimes right when I start it, other times not until it's been running for 10-15 minutes. There was one day when it wouldn't start, that was when I took it in a few months ago, but they told me I must have left a light on or something, which I find a little hard to believe but of course it's still in the realm of possibilities.

Red- 99 Chevrolet Camaro Z-28
I had the exact same problem with my 99 maro. only mine went as far as resetting everything, including the oil management. i took it to a chevy dealer. they ran some tests and told me the whole instrument cluster was shot. and would cost over $355 for a new one. so i decided to leave it as is. ran it for a while, and the factory battery finally took a crap on me. put a new battery in it. and ever since. i havent had a problem with anything. the gauge sweeps quit, and the trip quit resetting. so, its not always the gauge cluster itself. a hell of a lot cheaper to try a battery than put a $350 dollar part in that you really could have avoided
