Just bought a '94 Firebird, need help with a couple things

Just bought a '94 Firebird for my daughter, for the most part, it's in pretty good shape. But it has a few things I need to fix.
Service Engine Soon light comes on after a few minutes(5-10) usually when I'm on the highway. I jumpered the pins on the aldl connector, turned the key and I get nothing, the check engine light doesn't flash.
    0000XX <----jumpered these two
    000000

Second question, how can I tell if the car had a remote at one time?
I noticed the 'Security' light come on when I turn the key.
Would like to get a replacement remote if it will work.

I'd like to replace the radio, display is broken on this one, so give me a yell if you have one for sale.

    Thanks, Lance

    Car for daughter

    Good evening,
You didn't specify if a 6 or LT1. In any event, unless you are a mechanic or real confident in your abilities, take the Firebird to a Pontiac or a Chevy dealer and get one of those serious inspections. With your daughter driving a 12 year old car, pay the bucks to get a good second opinion on what is needed. You can decide then if you want to fix it yourself or whatever. They can also answer your questions officially. Too much at stake with your own daughter and you don't want any regrets later. This is important.

Don't think you can "flash" codes on a '94 from the DLC, '93 only. Look for RPO code AU0 for keyless entry. Visit Shoebox's site, there's a wealth of great info there. http://shbox.com

    Thanks for the quick feedback

I'm confident in my abilities, no doubt there.....yet.
As far as the car, my daughter was getting frustrated on how picky I was.
For $3200, I think found the best car around that was that old.

    It has the V6, I wouldn't put her behind a V8 yet.

I did read somewhere that the 94 was a test of some sorts for OBDII, yet it has the OBDI port, my code reader is OBDII only so I was unable to use it.
I'll dig a little deaper into this.

Off to check the RPO and Shoebox's website.

Oh, and by the way, by 1994 I would have thought GM could have figured out a way to keep the headliner fabric attached.
