Installed new steering column and car won't crank now.

Alright guys I Installed a new steering column in my 1995 Lt1 stroker trans am along with new ignition switch and key and I can't get the motor to turn over by the switch. I do have a security light on. Im assuming it needs reprogrammed Possible by the GM computer relearn Procedure. But can I do the VATS bypass and get the ignition to work? Im not to familiar with the security settings by gm or the procedures. Any hep would be nice!

I'd think you should be able to bypass VATS using the resistance value of the old key.

I still have the old keys and column so it shouldnt be hard to get something to work.

well when i swapped my column i decided to trade locks as well. It wasn't hard just remember to go down and rent the steering wheel lock compress tool thingy.

i would think if you still have the old lock cylinder, just swap them out, up to you.

Alright guys I Finally go the car starting tonight!

The VATS system really works, I was surprised.

I would have changed the lock except my old one was bad. Who ever had this car before me seriously trashed it and needed to been slapped in the face!

The security in these cars are really dumb, But thanks to all the help!

I do have another question about were a hose goes on the throttle body but Ill post pictures later so I can explain myself better.

funny, i once looked at a 94 Camaro. Didn't buy cuz one of the previous owners felt it was more important to mod with bolt ons than take care of the interior and exterior. I mean c'mon guy at least get that fender gap and sag fixed.

glad to hear you got it work sorry to here the lock was trashed. at least your fixing it up right

What Temp should these motors run? I just ordered a new radiator and thermo. But as it sets it likes 210 ? I figured 190-200 should be about right?

210 sounds about right for a stock thermo stat, yeah hotter than you would think. you can search quite a bit about 160* stats. check out this link

it's not an exact answer, but i think you will get the idea or an idea of what to do.

also you can read this as more info on the thermo stat. I think stock was rated something like 195 degrees, I'm not real sure though. I just know my temp gauge is about 205-210 ish, not real accurate.

get urself an ohm meter and check the resistance on the old key where the chip is 1 lead on one side and the other on the oppisite side and then just get urself a resistor with the same value and u can bypass it by cuting wires at bottom of colum and just solder it in simple as that
