Idle wont drop under 3000 rpms, If this happens to you.

Just sharing a recent experience I had to deal with.

Coming out of a parking lot I hit the gas and all of a sudden the rpms would not drop under 2500-3000 rpms no matter what I did, I manage to get home without wrecking or screwing up my driveline.
Once home I pulled out my scanner and checked everything, nothing seemed out of the ordinary that would lead me to it so I started narrowing it down, To make a long story short I tested my IAC by taking it out with the car off pointing it up and turning the ignition to the ON position. From there the IAC valve kept extending, extending and extending, until finally the whole top shot off. Replaced that, took the EGR valve off and cleaned it, I also did notice that the PCV hose from the front of the passenger side valve cover to the top of the throttle body had come off, Im not sure if I did this before or if it wiggled itself off so be sure to check this if it happens to you.

    Hope this helps.

That had to be a fun ride home. Anything that allows excess air into the intake is going to make the rpm's climb. Good work on the repairs.

When mine did this it was because the alternator had died and the ECM went into limp mode trying to charge the battery.

Good info. I never knew the IAC could just blow apart like that. Something to check when cleaning our throttle bodies. Nice work.

Very interesting here...I had two iac motors do the exact same thing recently....took them off to clean/test it...turned the key to on position....and both extended and shot off in my garage like they were shot out of a handgun....is this normal or is it just a bad idea to test our iac's?

I don't think you are supposed to power them up while unhooked.
