Idle RPM of 1300 when coasting

Hello,
When approaching a stoplight I shift into neutral. The idle will then drop from the running speed of wherever it was, down to 1200-1400rpm where it stays until 3-4 seconds after I have reached a complete stop. It will then drop down to it's normal idle rate of 800rpm. Any ideas?

any mods? Check for vacuum leaks first. Sounds like their might be some unmetered air getting in there somewhere or a tune issue if you have mods.

mine does it but only when i have the a/c or heat on.

idle is always different in park or in gear on an automatic car, from what ive seen

It does this to allow a smoother down shift, if you were to grab a lower gear.

Sounds like the throttle plate has gunk on it, and it is sticking open.

auto or 6 speed?

Mine does the exact same when Im runnin a little hard.
If I take it easy through town It doesnt seem to idle high when taking it out of gear.
