    Idle drop/ problem..

when im in park and turn the steering wheel, my alternator drops in the warning zone, when i put it in gear it also drops. some times its just in idle and drops out of no where.. New optima battery so tht cant be it. Im thinkin the EGR system.? maybe? anyone else ever had this problem? i would like to know for sure before spending $$$ on something that actually needs to be replace. ( fyi this is a v6, not your beautful v8)

    Couple of questions.

It only happens when you turn the wheel?
How far does it drop when you are in gear? Also, does it flutter?
What does it do at WOT? The EGR is only active when you are not under WOT. It could be the EGR.
Do you have K&N filter? If so it could be that your MAF has some oil on it.

I had an issue the other day and at cruise my rpms would flutter slightly and in gear the idle was down under 500 rpms. I cleaned the MAF, TB, and put in some fuel system cleaner and it is fine.

Pick up some MAF cleaner and spray it, DO NOT tough the elements what so ever. Also, grab some TB cleaner and clean that as well and use some fuel system cleaner. You will be suprised at what it does for your car.

Forgot. I had a 1996 Buick Regal GS with the 3800 Series II and had a few issues. One was that it would idle like shit and had NO response what so ever and it had a loss of power. Turns out it was the fuel filter.

Another thing was that the alternator went out on it but did it slowly. For a few weeks the light would flash and then all the sudden it stayed on.

    Go have it checked.

Alternator - get it checked. If you've never changed it, yours is going on 12 years old now. Might be on its last breath.

Mass air flow and throttle body. Both are between your air lid and intake. Still say alternator.

I would still clean that other stuff Jon as he is cleaning that filter every few months. I am willing to bet you are right but that MAF and TB being caked with that shit is not going to help performance any what so ever.

OP, also try and pull some plugs, check your wires to see if everything is working and fitting as it should.

i got it checked out by autozone, they said my brand new one month old yellow top optima battery is bad but once i start the car it said it was good. so they didnt replace it, i have 4 codes also, miss fire due to a vaccum leak most likely that i know of, airtemp curcuit , and o2 sensor and knock sensor. They didnt check out my alternator though, i guess ill just pull it off this weekend and go to O'Reileys to get it checked.

ok the MAF is CLEAN, i just pulled it and its fine, it was loose though, must have been from the guys who rebuilt the engine didnt screw it on all the way. But the battery voltage still drops right above the warning line when you turn the steering wheel when in park. I gave it gas in park and turned the steering wheel and the voltage stayed up. Im thinking an idle problem.
