    idle

Ok so i just both a 01 trans am, and i was wondering about my idle. I notice that it idle's around 500 rmp. Is this normal? my oil pressure is 40 wen fully warm and 55 on cool starts. The reason why i'm asking is because i also have a 02 camaro z28 and it idle's around 800 rpm. witch i read was normal idle.

Also i notice that there is a number stamp on the side of the engine head's i thing is like 246 or something like that. What does that number mean?

Thanks for any info on both my question's.

an 01 auto commands 650 rpm in park/neutral and 550 in gear so you're in the ball park......the manual commands 800. Your oil pressure is also in the correct ballpark. The number you're looking at is probably 241 which is the part number for the heads.

+1 My LS1 posts the same readings. In gear the low RPM at idle keeps the vehicle from creeping forward excessively at stops.

yeah my 02 camaro z28 is a m6 and the 01 t/a is a auto. Thanks for the info it makes great sense. as to the 241 head stamp what does it mean? because i notice that a 98-00 does not have that number. i was just wondering if the heads are diff between the 98-00 and the 01-02

there are a few different head castings out there.....98's had perimeter bolt heads, 99+ had 241 heads, then there's the LS6 243 heads that came on the z06's and later the 05-06 GTO's.
