Ideas and Help Replacing Motor
Hey all I have a 98 Camaro that has some loud knocking going on. It is a Z28 Auto car with 123k miles. I have been talking to a shop about putting a remanufactured engine in it and I am supposed to get some prices tomorrow. I am on a very limited budget, no more then 4000 dollars and that will include the shop labor. I am looking for a daily driver that I can take on long 1000-2000 mile cruises. I am open to suggestions and ideas. I did find this on my local craigslist. What concerns would you have for an LS1 pulled from a rolled corvette?

Less than 10k miles on it out of rolled vette. NO COMPUTER OR HARNESS , can buy for 700.00 new or less at junk yard, for more info call
Also if I can afford to go remanufactured longblock what cam should I put in for a daily driver? I was going to lid, LS6 Intake, Headers, Exhaust. I want it quick but able to cruise lots of miles.
Thanks in advance.

i'd personally just build a new motor... i dropped a LS6 crate engine in my car from the last motor i blew because the price was right... if i blow this one up i'm going to build a larger sube engine... but i'd not trust an engine out of a car that was rolled... you can take a guess at what he was doing when he rolled it... you won't need to harness cause you'll just reuse yours... same with all the pullies... if you do get this engine to a compression test... i'd take the whole thing apart just to make sure everything is good inside...

I certainly wouldn't put a 98 engine in there. That knocking sound is probally the results of another 98 spinning rod bearings. If you put another 98 in there you better replace the rod bolts for sure. Look around and find you a late model LQ9 cast iron 6 liter engine.

Isn't there a big weight difference with the LQ9?
