Car isn't turning over at all? If you suspect the VATS try a different key or clean the pelet on the one you're using first. Sure the battery you put in is good? If the security light isn't flashing on the dash I'd start with getting the battery load tested first - most auto parts stores will check it free. Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key on?

Testing resistance of the key only gives you the value - you can do a VATS bypass if the key isn't communicating with the car. http://shbox.com/1/vats_bypass.jpg Hey, not charging to come out is a good deal.

The vats bypass is $3-4 and 30 minutes. If you want your security system then I'd say have it fixed but I just did the bypass. Cheap and easy.
