How to remove the Steering Gear Assembly

I tried to remove the steering gear and got it all out except the main bolt on the drivers side. It was long and hits the oil pan. I jacked up the moter just a bit as not to damage anything and still the bolt was to long. I need to replace the gear cause its leaking and the power sterring fluid is running on to my catalitic converter and it smells pretty bad. I though about cutting the bolt off and replacing it with a new one and putting it in upside down, but would prefer to put it in from the top as it came out. Plus how to cut the bolt off is another problem....Has anyone replaced there sterring gear and how did you get it off?

Also, I found the part for $425 on gm parts direct and the dealer wants over $700. autozone wants $235, not sure which way to go, with either the one from Gmparts direct or autozone. Has any one replaced theirs and where did you get it from?
Thanks for your help in advance.....

I did mine a while ago, ended up having to take the bolt out of the driver side mount and jack the motor up high enough to get the clearance to take it out. Thought about cutting it, but like you said that's another problem within itself.

Any more advise from anyone would be greatly appreciated..

I would stay away from the stealer aka dealer and honestly a autozone replacement will do just fine, and probly come with a lifetime warranty.
