How to make a camaro z28 hit 12.40's

    Aright guzs,
My dad has a 1970 dodge challenger and it runs 12.40's. I want to know how to make my 1998 camaro z28 run low 12's under a grand and do not want to run slicks or put some kind of loud exhaust/headers on it. Is what I am asking even posible? Thanks

wow that was fast. I also din't want to run spray unless its my only option. I have heard spray is hard on the engine and want to beat my dad's car with my engine and not a power adder unless it's my only choice.

Nitrous is considered a power adder, at least in my eyes. Anyway nitrous is your only choice for what you are asking. And slicks will be needed, how do you expect to get any traction?

agreed. mid 12's under a grand without at least drag radials is asking a lot. You could probably do it by spraying it and come in under a grand.

well his car is on stock redlines witch are like 4 inches wide so a 12 sec car can get traction on stock tires

    Also I have a Auto

    Stall, 4.11's, sticky tires, exhaust.
Takes away the mileage/driveability of the car though with those gears.
$1000 doesn't really go that far on these cars.

You won't get it without sticky tires. You would have to make up for the traction with power, and with only a grand to spend, it won't happen.

It may be do-able, but for that price range spray is going to be the best bet.

How do the stall's effect driveing and what exactly do they do? Also will raising the compresion a bit and adding a cam help?

    Very much so.
But the cam install alone will be $1000, and that is just for parts.

The stall isn't the driveability problem. The gears would be. Wouldn't make it harder to drive, but it would make it worse on mileage.
Someone with a stalled car will have to explain the street manners of a stalled car.

I have a 3500 in mine. Can't tell you what the mileage is but it sucks around town with 3.73's. Before my rear swap I don't remember the mileage being to bad with just a stall. I also didn't see a half second gain that most/some people see. I saw about 3 tenths with my stall.
$1000 is really going to limit what you can do. I tend to use my strengths when doing something like that so I would make it a short race since he's on redlines and get a set of drag radials and try to cream his ass outta the hole.

I think the best bet is stall, sticky tires, and gears.
What gears does the car have now???

Uhhhh YEAH a car CAN go 12 seconds with stock tires(although I doubt your dad is running STOCK tires on his 1970 dodge challenger(they'd prolly be pretty worn), you prolly meant to say normal size), but we are talking about YOUR car and it CAN'T hit 12's without sticky tires...

Bone stock 99 z28, no mods at all, bfg drag radials and a 125 hp wet shot gets me consistent 11.80's. Nitrous kit was $400 from harris speed works, tires were $300. A few odds and ends you will want for your nitrous and you'll be just under $1000 and running in the 11's. Best bang for the buck hands down.

Yeah depending on dyno time I guess it can be costly, however I don't have any experiencing in having a car tuned, but to really make any Nitrous car safe I think a tune would be needed.

Are you planning on keeping your car? If so why not just build it the right way, lid full exhaust etc. etc. and build a stout driveable racing car which will eventually beat your dads? At least this way you will have a reliable car built properly. IF you add nitrous but don't REALLY want it and you beat him, are you happy you dropped a grand for that one win? This is all if you plan on keeping the car for awhile of course....

Definately not true... unless you are talking about for the price... we have a member that hit mid 12s with street tires.

    Heres a post from him...

Well I have seen LS1 in the high 12's stock so I thought a grand would get me mid twelves. gess not... I want a drivable car not some nitous car that will not be usable on the street. I rather just get on intake and a few other things before nitrous or slicks. I dont want to break my car.

I went 12.6 on street tires at 115 MPH.
But you have to have the power to make up for a sub-par launch. Not going to get that power for $1000.
