Taupe/Red- 2001 Trans Am Conv
Scary stuff!
You have to be very careful on this and I personally do NOT recommend it. A legitimate transaction would work this way: Once you pay and the funds are found to be good the owner (title holder) can easily get his name notarized on the title with your name written in as 'buyer'. Then it would be mailed to you by 'registered mail'. When you receive the title, just transfer the title in your name as you register it and pay any state taxes. However, there are so many factors that can work against you. First off, do you really know the owner? Does he really have the title or is the car still being paid for? Will he pay off the car and send you the title? I definitely prefer 'person to person' transactions at a local bank. That way funds can be verified and the title can be notarized in your presence. I won't go into details but I personally worked cases where people were just devastated by both unethical buyers and sellers. It works both ways. Make the effort to visit the other party for peace of mind. If there is any hesitation on the other person's part, RUN!! There is no reason why this important transaction can't take place during banking hours. If a dealership, no problem, but I believe you are referring to an individual. I hope I have helped a bit. Feel free to e/mail me if I can assist further.

A Missouri title can just be signed off on the back and it's transferred. Many years ago it had to be notorized-in other words it depends on the state and their rules.

Can't you do an escrow deal where no one gets anything until everyone is happy?
