How Do You Pull An LS1 Engine Properly
Just curious because I now have to do this. If anyone has experience and can give me a quick list on what needs to be done I would greatly appreciate it. I figured you have to take the radiatior out and most of everything on the front section to free up some room. Then I would remove the driveshaft and the transmission. Then I would remove the pressure plate, clutch, and flywheel. Then I would disconnect any wire harnesses that are tied from the car into the engine. Then I would take out the main bolts that hold the engine in place with the Engine Hoist of course in place. Then I figure I would be able to pull the sucker. Am I missing anything such as removing any engine parts to make for more room? This is my first time doing it but I know there are some people in here that have been through this. Please help me!!!! Ive already spent alot on this baby and this is the final piece of the puzzle.

juiced99ws6 just pulled his. Might want to PM him. The engine really should come out the bottom with the tranny attached. Much easier that way. Will Handzel has a book that gives you step by step instructions on pulling it along with pictures. Do a search for his name at amazon.com. About $12 for the book and worth it.

to yank it out the top you will also need to pull your intake manifold. I did mine wiht transmission attached which made things much harder. Also do you have headers or is the car all stock? you will at a minimum need to disconn your y pipe which you didnt mention and mine needed to headers off to pull it and put it back in. Why are you pulling it?

My engine needs an overhaul due to the car running on 0 pressure after the Harmonic Balancer backed out. I was told on another thread here that my engine would need an overhaul due to the main bearings being scored aka burned. I dont know what to do so I figured I would fix the entire engine to eliminate the loss of oil pressure I am experiencing. I cant take the engine out the bottom due to a lack of tools necessary to do it that way.

If you have a hoist....you have the tools to remove it from the bottom.
Hoist the car off the k-member/motor.

A friend of mine just mounted a chain hoist to a a beam running across his garage. He used the strut tower brace to lift the car off of the engine.
