how do you know if your catalytic converter is clogged

Yesterday after a nice run with my car , it just shut off.I tried to turn it back on and would just shutter and turn back off.I start the car back on and would stay on running rough and then shut off.I did notice that my car was making a vibrating noise from the cats , any help would be really appreciated.

    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

i dont' think that's the cat. I had a shitty cat and it just smelled of exhaust and threw an SES code every once in a while.

If your exhaust gets quiter and your engine seems like it's losing power, especially at higher RPMs, your cat is probably clogged. This is usually preceeded by rattling noises from the cat as it's guts start falling apart.

Does a bad converter always cause a code? My WS6 feels weak but no codes at all. I haven't noticed any odd smell from the exhaust.
    I can't figure it out.

could be a cracked upper plenum. had the same problem on a 99 grand prix. see if u can smell coolant in the tailpipe. that would be a dead giveaway
