High Idle at Coastdown
I have an '01 WS.6, M6, and know that the idle tends to stay slightly elevated when coasting down to a stop from interstate speeds. Once stopped the idle would drop to the normal 650 rpm range. Lately though, the idle has been staying high (around 1,000 rpm) even when I get to a complete stop. Anyone else experience this? Any ideas on a possible cause?

Ive heard a thousand people say that it is a vaccume leak. I personally, dont think so. I think that it is just the nature of the beast. This is my 3rd F body and EVERY one did it. Just engage the clutch and it will stop. I always noticed mine starting it when it is either cold engine/ or after descreening MAF. Might be coincidence, but dont know.

Thanks mavrikZ. I wouldn't think vacuum leak either, unless it's in the EGR circuit. Everything seems to return to normal at startup. That would be one tricky vacuum leak.
I was thinking it could be the IAC, but it's clean (now anyway). If it was inoperable, letting the clutch out to slow the engine wouldn't work.

Exactly right. Vaccume leaks arnt that choosy! And the clutch would have zero effect. Dont let this bother you(I know that is easier said than done, mine still bothers me after 5 yrs) it isnt hurting a thing.
And you are welcome.
