Exclamation Help Please. Car Won't Start

Hey guys. I have a 2002 Camaro SS M6 with about 45k on it. The other night I was driving home from work and the SES light came on. I drove it home, about 15 miles and it ran fine the whole way. When I parked it I unhooked the battery to reset the comp and see if the SES light would come on again.

The next morning I hooked up the battery to drive it to work and nothing..
All the lights on the dash turned when you turned the ignition on but when you turned the key to start it everything went black and stayed that way. When you open a door the security light in the dash blinks rapidly and there is a clicking noise. Plus there is a electric buzzing/humming sound comming from the speakers.

The battery is one year old. It is fully charged and I took it to get load tested and it checked out fine.

    All the fuses are ok..

    Any ideas guys??

    Thank You,
    Brandon

Sounds like you have a bad battery connection somewhere.

I cleaned the terminals and battery connections and made sure they were tight. The battery connection on the driver side of the motor next to the fuse/relay boxes is tight. Other then a connection on the starter what other connections are there? If I had a connection problem somewhere shouldn't I not have any power at all?

    Thanks

It wont even start to spin the alternator. Is there a way to test the alternator without the engine running?

You havent tried jump starting your car, or charging the battery have you? I just re-read your post, and it definatly sounds like an alternator. The clicking noises you are hearing are from the relays is not having enough power to stay in the on position, but too much power to stay in the off. If you have a volt meter, just see how many volts your battery has right now. So check the battery, then go from there.

If you reread his post it says he took the battery in to get tested and it's fine. Sounds more like the VATS is upset for some reason. The alternator has nothing to do with it not cranking or not having any lights come on in the dash. If you have a security system other than the VATS it could have been reset by disconnecting the battery- I would be looking in that direction also.

Wow, I need to learn how to read...again. My theory with the alternator was thinking that it wasnt charging the battery, which would lead to a no start/no crank situation. You say that you checked the positive cables, but did you check the grounds as well. And easy way to do this is take a set of jumper cables, then put one end on the negative side of the battery, then the other on a ground on the chassis, then try this again with a side on the engine.

If the VATS (the key resistor security thingy) is triggered you get symptom like that. The security light comes on and nothing else works. A little moisture on the key can cause this- there are other causes too. Do you have the factory alarm?

Problem Solved. It had a loose ground. Tightened it up and it fired right up.
    Thanks for your help guys.
