Mystic Teal- 2000 Z28
Help! My car will not allow me to put gas in it.
I've got a 2000 Z28 and for some reason the gas tank is building up pressure to the point it will not allow me to put any gas in. The fuel system is completely stock. I've been snaking a rubber hose down the filler neck to press the check valve on the tank and relieve the pressure just to put gas in it each time. Without doing this gas just blows back out. I'm thinking perhaps the vent tube on the sending unit or line is plugged but before I drop the tank down I thought I'd ask if anyone else has had this issue and how they resolved it. I noticed it only seems to happen below a quarter of a tank and I suppose I could always make sure I have at least that much in the tank but I would prefer to correct the issue. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ~Mark

Mazda has a similar recall right now for spiders making webs in the filler vent tube. We have to stick a dryer brush into the vent tube to check for webs. If we find any webs, we have to order a new tank as the pressure builds up and neither fuel can be pumped in, and the tank expands.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I removed the filler neck and flushed it out, removed the line to the evap canister and flushed it out and it appears to have cured the problem. Thanks again ~Mark

there's also a purge solenoid that could be your issue so if the issue comes back that would be the next place I would look.
