Ok guys just for some reference, what kind of tranny (T-56) and rear gear fluid do you guys use and how much do you need and whens a good point to change each?

Also what about the fuel filter? Same thing, what kind, when do you usually change it?

Yeah, I've had the car for 2 years now and put 20k miles on it. I jut got to thinking about it and would like to change everything for piece of mind and its about time anyway.

So 4qrts of Dexron III for the T-56 but change it how often?
Also, how much gear oil does the rear need?

Thanks for the info so far guys.

Oh and what about coolant? How often should you completely flush it?

I'd change the tranny fluid every 20,000-30,000 or so. Rear end takes just under 2 quarts. I use any 80/90 mineral gear oil with 1 bottle GM lsd. Coolant I never completely flush I just drain and refill the radiator every other year. Figure this will keep it clean enough.

Do not use synthetic fluid if you have an "Auburn" rearend, if it is a "Torson" you could use either.

I use 85w-140 dino oil in my torson 3.73 rearend.

I've heard that they did either stock. How can you tell the difference?

Not sure about 93-97 but 98 LS1s got Auburn, it was an option for the Firehawks only after that.

Once you change the rear cover to one with a drain plug it's a piece of cake.

For F-body rear, you pull the cover, drain and clean out the insides, scrap the gasket off, install a new gasket and fill through the plug hole.
GTO is independant rear isn't it? You probably have a drain plug then.

Yes it is. I'm fairly new at this, always having FWD-i checked under the back for the first time and go "wtf are those CV shafts?!"

isn't there a special friction modifier that you are supposed to add into the rear diff fluid when you fill it up? a limited slip diff additive or something along those lines if i'm not mistaken.
