Hawks Third Gen?
Anyone used them? After getting all the UMI chassis stiffeners installed, apparently that took enough flex out of the chassis that the rear end was now at risk and is in the process of coming apart.
I contacted Hawks about getting a replacement used unit until I can get the 2800.00 for a strange 12 bolt. They want 500.00 + shipping for one.
I have been looking and posted a wanted ad but didn't get a hold of anyone that had one from the forum.
Anyway, does this sound high for a rear end or do they actually make sure the unit is in good shape prior to shipping?

What is the rear doing?
For $500 they should make sure that they are selling a reliable rear end.
I picked up a used one from a 97 TA for $60.
I still have the gears if that is what you are looking for and are interested.
Everything else is being used for a project.

It has the ratcheting sound that happens all the time now. It also has slack that seems to make it want to spool up then engage. When you grab the wheels on either side, there is noticeable movement both in and out of the axel tube and side to side movement.
Biggest cause of death was all the UMI stuff, once the chassis flex was gone the aging rear end and aging tranny are taking the brunt of the abuse it seems.

It needs a complete rebuild, bearings and all. I would rather just swap for a (hopefully) better rear end of a couple hundred bucks than botch a gear install/rebuild that I have never done before. I appreciate the offer though. If you by chance run into someone dumping a decent 10 bolt, please send them my way.
