    1998 Camaro SS

    have u guys ever heard of this!??

    just curious if anyone else has ever heard of this happening. i havent. ok 98 ss m6. reverse just quit workin one day, took out tranny and took it apart to find that the magnet thats supposed to collect metal shavings came loose and the transmission ripped it to pieces!!!! a chuck was stopping me from gettin to reverse.

    yeah the m6 doesnt have a pan. im not sure where the magnet was originally located but ya it got all chewed up but all the gears and bearings look really good actually. im just afraid that the tiny pieces that are still probably in there are going to find their way into the bearings and toast my transmission. i have no idea what would cause the magnet to come out of its place tho.

    Magnets are usually on the drain plug. Someone else will have to say for sure though.

    If the M6 does not have a magnet on the drain plug, then maybe it was something else that was chewed up in the OP's transmission.

    try searching this. Someone else recently had the same problem....or maybe it was you and im just so tired it felt like it was a few weeks ago but it was really just yesterday haha but im pretty sure i remember reading about this somewhere else on this site
