With technology these days, and car enthusiasts getting more involved, its often easier and more cost efficient to send your computer off to have it tuned. It's what is often referred to as a "mail order tune". Frost is a site sponsor, and I have yet to hear anything even remotely bad about his results from customers. Give him a call or just feel free to check out his website. After I get nicks figured out with my kit this next weekend, I'll be paying him a visit

As far as handhelds go, the Diablo is one of the better ones out there. I've tinkered with them as well as the Hypertech. The diablo has the ability to store custom tunes to be flashed in from various Diablo supporters and it has other features that the other handhelds don't have.

In the end though none of them satisfied me to the extent I wanted to go. I ended up with HPtuner software. If you aren't comfortable with that I'd stick with either a mail order tune from Frost or take it to him for a dyno tune or someone reputable in your area.

Actually a mail order tune would be better if you get one from Frost here on the site.
Not only that, but it's actually cheaper.

He has mail order tunes that are very nice for mild cars from his extensive dyno tuning. For not much more than ~$100-150 and you are ready to go.

There are instructions on his website: TunedbyFrost.com.
You fill out a information sheet with your current mods, mail in your computer, he reprograms it and mails it back to you.

Yep, just as Cutlass explained,,,,very simple. There are more people than I can count that use his services and have nothing but great things to say. Great guy that has also helped me out.

As far as HP and TQ, every car varies a bit. To ring the most out of the car would require a dyno tune and several hundred $$$$$
A mail order tune from Frost would get you pretty darn close.

Oh yeah. By far. SLP has a bit of a bad reputation in the LS1 community. Not everything SLP does/sells is bad but...

You bet. When it comes to tuning, it's hard to beat a knowledgable tuner that can do much more to the car than the handhelds can.

Frost could better answer that for ya based off what he sees on his own dyno. They all vary a bit.

keep in mind that the predator no longer gives you the option of turning off o2 sensor codes so if you plan on getting rid of your cats you'll have to send the pcm out anyhow to have those codes switched off. Frosts mail order is definitely the way to go IMO.....half the price of the hand helds.

If you get a predator don't get SLP's version...it costs more and literally has less than half the user adjustable options. How they get away with that amazes me but that's SLP for ya.

Please just send me the money (will happily take half of SLP's price).....as you are gaining nothing by using a handheld these days.
Honestly, the handhelds are completely worthless and DECREASE performance.

I had the SLP handheld, and a regular Diablew hand held, I used one and did a dyno on it with a result of 310 hp and running a 13.06 1/4, with very slight mods. Once I got into some more bolt on mods, and saved the money for a tune from Frost, I went up to 330hp and a 12.74 1/4. I did get the dyno tune from him since I was close, but I have talked with other guys here local that have only gotten the mail order/street tune and are quite satisfied. If you are wanting a tune, stay away from the handheld and get the Frost mail order, you will not regret it.
