    Got 2 questions

I got 2 things going on here?

1st: Have a leak from the power steering pump. It looks like it's coming from the hoses. I see that they sell replacement gasket and O-ring kits. Anybody ever just replaced the O-rings and gasket or just replace the whole thing?

2nd: It may be tied into the above problem. When I start up and get moving, My check gauges light comes on as I rev up and move thru the gears. Only during high rev. I don't go into the red, but I'm shifting at 4500 - 5000 rpm

    Any ideas?

I don't know much but I think it would be better/easier to just replace the whole hose for the power steering? But maybe a bit more expensive too... And for your 2nd problem have you checked to see if any other gauges go low maybe the volts gauge? my "check gauges" light has only flashed when one of those was too low for example the gas

It only happens after the first start up. It goes like this:

I start car, leave driveway, to get out of my sub-division, I cruise in 2nd for about a 1/2 mile to get to the entrance, we are on a semi-major 2 lane road, so there's traffic in the morning, I some times need to get on it to pull out. When I do the light flutters on and the gauges look like:

water - not even warmed up yet
oil -pressure is above 40 almost 60
    volts - flux between 15 to 12
    gas - irrelevant

on a hard pull oil and volts flux a lot and it is only when the car seems really cold.

From the '98 GM service manual:

    • The oil pressure is too low.

The indicator lamp also comes on for about one second after the ignition is placed into the BULB TEST position.

conditions for turning on CHECK GAUGES light:
1)voltage outside of the specified range 11.2 to 16.5
2)The coolant temperature is above approximately below 118°C (244°F) for V8 VIN G.
3)The oil pressure is above 8.3 psi (minimum for pump).
4)Anything below 3 to 5 psi should cause the check gauges light to turn on
I would say mostly its a bad alternator or a bad IPC

For the power steering pump. Get yourself some engine cleaner or even just some electric contact cleaner and clean the area REAL good. Then check after driving and you should be able to properly determine where the leak is.

I have never had an o-ring just fail since it should not degrade when sealed properly. So I imagine you have a bad hose or a crack in your resivoir.

As for the guages thing, check your battery connections especially the ground. You might have a loose connection or corrosion.
