GM Upper Engine and FI Cleaner
I want to clean my ls1's top end by pouring in GM Cleaner upper Engine and Fuel Injector Cleaner through my PCV line into the intake. The part # on this cleaner is 88861802 and comes in a clear plastic bottle, showing a blue fluid.
The bottle is 16 oz's; so how much should I use?
Is this even the right stuff? I don't trust using Sea Foam in my intake but the Sea Foam can instructions say use 1/3 of 16 oz's.Last edited by Cachels1; 05-03-2008 at 11:17 AM.

I read that sea foam can damage seals, and just works well in carbs.

I got a response from a different forum post that said the directions for use are the same for both the GM cleaner and Sea Foam, 1/3 of 16 oz's, is that true?

Are you trying to clean the pistons and piston rings? If so, here how I would do it. Go drive the car and get the engine nice and warmed up. I like to get the engine really hot, like beat the snot out it, drive around in second gear @ 45mph for like 5 miles. The seems to really warm up the carbon and free it up a little. Then suck that cleaner into a vacuum hose with the engine running. It'll smoke a little and idle errantic but no worries. I'd use like half or all of the bottle. Either stall the motor but sucking it in really fast at the end or just shut it off when your done. Let the car sit for 2 hours to let the stuff soak. Then go drive it and beat the snot out it again. Then change the oil.
This is sort of a modified version of a carbon treatment GM has for the Cadillac Northstar V8.

Yes......The GM Cleaner doesnt utilize a solvent base......that is where the seal remark is coming from.....both excellent top end cleaners.....SeaFoam ( for the record) will only damage seals/gaskets if not used per the instructions and probably well over 1,000,000 folks have/are using it to prove it is safe as hell....but the GM cleaner is fine also.....1/3 is correct....
