This is getting on my nerves!!

I get this noise from my Engine bay and it sounds like a belt or pulley. It NEVER does it on a cold start, only after the engine has been warmed up (driving it around) then when i turn the engine off and come back like 30 min. later and fire it up it has this whining noise and it REALLY PISSES ME OFF!!!

it kinda kicks on then off a soforth and when i rev it up it stops then at idle it makes a "tick" noise and comes back on. Then after a while of drivine it just stops all together. It hasnt effected performance that i can tell. ive checked the belts and they seem to be fine. anyone have any ideas??

Sounds similar to what my AIR pump was doing just before my cat converter went out. Hasn't done it again since cat was replaced 3-4 months ago. Don't know exactly what the relationship between the 2 is; maybe someone here can chime in... Mine did it a lot cold too though, so maybe something different...just an idea... Good luck!

Check the clutch on the AC Compressor. If that doesn't fix it, your idler pully spring could be worn out.

Yeah I would look at the idler pulley first. Take your belt off and spin it by hand. When mine went out it was obvious when spun by hand.

Well i started the car up after being warmed up and while it made that noise I turned on the A/C and the RPM's moved around a little, it dropped a little bit and then went back and I also had the dash lights and headlights on and the dimmed a little bit then went back to normal. so my guess is that the A/C compressor has something to do with it. I dont know JACK about A/C systems!

A.I.R pump....key thing here is you said you can hear it engage and disengage. Also it's a very common problem...mine does it now and then.

Your a/c compressor sounds normal...your lights flickering and the idle dropping for a second is from the sudden drag and current draw from the compressor.

From what you're describing yes i'd get a new pump...if you post a vid of your car making the sound the "troubleshooting" from people on here will be more accurate.

Or just do what lot of guys do, and eliminate the system completely.

You would just need to get a tune to eliminate the SES light

If the noise changes when turning on the A/C-it'll be the A/C clutch making noise. It is freewheeling when the A/C is off and the pulley is rotating-there is a bearing in there that is going off. Looked at a car ( Camaro)yesterday that was doing this.
