gauge cluster
for the last couple days my ws6 has been acting weird. not every time but a few times a day it will crank slow. each time it does this the fuel gauge, tach, and speedo go all the way to the right then back to the left then to where they are supposed to. also the trip odometer goes back to 0.0
any suggestions would be appreciated. going on a trip tomorrow so i need someone to tell me it wont leave me stranded

The '99 cars will do that with low battery voltage. Check the cables and have the battery load tested before taking it on the trip. GM issued a TSB on it to replace the gauge cluster, but a good battery makes it go away.

did you have the cluster out lately.. If the connection is not solid it will flake out like that as well

I agree with the weak battery/loose battery cables idea. Low voltage will make the cluster act that way.

had the battery tested (they said it was good). but i dont trust the kids working at the autoparts stores. so i switched it with the battery in my other car and the problem is gone. so i just need a battery. thanks for the replies guys.

Well alot of places sell the short battery wrench and that works great for a lot of cars but the long one works awesome on those same cars and its almost mandatory on a few cars.
Google search found the long one at JCWhitney

and Restockit

I just use a small 1/4" drive ratchet with an 8mm socket.
