Gas ... Regular/Premium
i have an '88 Firebird and usually put Regular Unleaded in it, but yesterday i filled it with Premium. My dad said now my engine would be f*d, i thought it wouldn't make a difference, if anything run a bit better. Who's right?

Premium is only needed when a vehicle is designed to run on it. Like the Corvette for example. You are not getting any more performance by using premium in your vehicle however; using premium will not harm your engine in any way.

Well, I've never heard that using premium would hurt any motor....
Maybe many years ago when there was leaded and unleaded... But, since all we have available today is unleaded, there is no problem.
It took my Chevelle a while to get used to unleaded...but, she had no choice
I use premium in my Camaro.

15 gal x $3.79= $56.85
15 gal x $3.99= $59.85
Not really much of a difference per fill up if you do the math.

Red- 1998 Camaro SS
I've heard this tale from older gearheads, seems back in the day if you ran your car on 87 for years then switched to 92 there would be issues in the motor. I don’t see how but that’s what I've been told. The only thing I can think of is on carbed cars if you have the timing set for 92 octane and then run 87 with out knock sensors you could mess your engine up really good that way.

the only thing that I can think of is the difference between regular and unleaded. The older muscle cars needed the regular gasoline.

Not at any gas station for regular fill up around here...
Since 31 December 1995 it has been illegal to sell for use in on-road vehicles any gasoline which contains lead or lead additives. (But in 1999 leaded gasoline still is produced in the U.S. and is being used in nonroad vehicles-- primarily as aviation fuel, but also in farm machinery and race cars.)
