Gas around the manifold
The other day i was cleaning up my engine bay and i noticed a strip of gasoline going all the way around the intake manifold. I noticed it because a bunch of dirt and crap was accumilating on it. I tried to smell it and it smells like gas. I cant remember but do the intakes have gaskets? Or is it like a gasket built onto the manifold? Do you guys think i blew my gasket or what do you guys think its from?

I would check for a leaking injector or fuel line fitting. If the intake were leaking, I would expect it to act more like a vacuum leak.

+1. Inspect your injectors and fuel rails. You can pressurize the rail by turning the ignition key on -- no need to start the engine. It goes without saying that gasoline is flammible, so exercise caution and have a fire extinguisher or two handy. Do not drive the car until the problem is corrected.

i dont think its the injectors! Those look fine, its allllll the way around the intake manifold including in the front by the TB. I dont think the injectors would leak so perfectly all the way around the manifold like it is especially if it was only one leaking.

I know you said it smells like gas but ever think of rail condensation?
I see you live in humid FLA.
If it were a lower O-ring I would think you'd have a vac leak..
Just about everything under our hoods smells sorta like gas..
HOWEVER, if it's an upper o-ring and is leaking under presure the fuel can run all along the bottom of the rail then drip down..
Also I have had fuel leaks that did'nt show with the car off and the pump on..
But as soon as I fired it up and the fuel was moving in the rail it would leak..
Injector O-rings are very cheap replacing them even if we don't think they are bad is good practice considering they are in constant contact with fuel and the age of our cars if the O-rings are still factory.. Could'nt hurt.
Even if they seem good..
Also my engine has rail mounting bolts that secure it to the manifold and give a uniform mounting distance between the rail and manifold..
Without all them in place it could leak @ the injector inlets a crooked rail can/will leak..Last edited by Smittro; 03-12-2011 at 07:10 AM.

Just be careful when cleaning the engine. If the injectors are leaking around the O-rings, then water can get in there as well...not good.
