    Fuel Pump gone?

My 99 LS1 Camaro has 204,000 miles on it and has never had the fuel pump changed. Friday I was driving and my car shut down totally. It will crank but not start. However, Satruday it started for about 30 seconds and then died just enough to move it in my driveway. Would you guess that the fuel pump is the culprit?

Yesterday I connected my EFI Live to get an indication of what could be going on but the fuel system tests came back passed.

I'm guessing that the fuel pump is bad because I can't even hear it kick on when I turn the ignition on. Relays are good and no fuses are blown.

Also, if you could recommend a good replacement pump that would be great too. Autozone wants $471 for one. I was wondering if the Granatelli Motorsports pump is sufficient.

    Thanks in advance

test your fuel psi at the rails, filter and pump. it should be around 55-60psi and then about 80 at the pump. i just went thru the same ordeal with my car ... i ordered a racetronix fuel pump and it's great. i spent like $175 on the pump, xfered all my other parts over and it works awesome ... i'd reccommend checking that pump out

before getting into replacing the pump, try replacing the filter. If it hasn;t been done in recent memory or since you got the car.

    0 PSI at the rails.

ls1camino: I may buy that pump from you. Will it connect to the current stock connectors? Or do I need to make modifcations?

Taking off the fuel filter (I've changed it 4 times in the past) I have now created a bigger problem by twisting the fuel line. Not a great day.
Now I have to search for a fuel block and the 90 degree elbow that goes to the fuel filter.

you may also want to check your regulator. while you have everything out. you can get a regulator from auto zone for $40 or you can get a fuel pump with an external regulator from AC Delco

i'm pretty sure on all 98-02's, it's on the pump assembly. my regulator housing broke off so i got lucky and discovered the external regulator ... i had to "fabricate" a little bit ... moved some lines around, welded one shut and had to mount the new fuel filter housing onto the frame. took like 10 minutes to do all of it but it works like a charm now

I know I have to cut a hole to get to the fuel pump, are they any good instructions online? I thought InstallUniversity had one but they don't. I will search this board again.

Thanks all for your replies. I have replaced the fuel filter, still nothing. It's gotta be the fuel pump. Thought about getting a FP at the junkyard.

I plan on selling this vehicle soon, would it be better if I sold it with a high performance FP, or just make it stock. I'll probably be lucky if i get $1k out of it. :O

You don't need to cut the whole, thats just the "easy" way to get to it, basicly you pull back the carpet where the parcel shelf is(the high area behind the back seat), fins the center line and make a roughly 6 inch "hole" most I see look like they have been made with an ax/ Peel back or remove the sheet metal, do what you need to do with the pump then replace the peice.

Or you drop tank, no fabricating required. maybey need to cut the exhaust.

No need to cut the car or the exhaust. Did mine in like 3-4 hours droping the tank..

This is probably a good suggestion to replace the regulator too.

hmmm... my previous reply didn't make it. weird

wonder if UPS considers this "FRAGILE, handle with care" when delivering the pump to my door.

Anybody know if air should move freely through venturi tube with some back pressure?

As well as the check valve at the top for the return line.
