    Fuel module check valve.

On Sunday, I was helping another member on here replace his fuel pump. We got everything back together, and we were instructed to fill the bucket with fuel. And, that it shouldn't leak. Well, it leaked. So, we are pretty sure that the check valve in the bucket is bad. It was leaking at the sock that is connected to the check valve. We are pretty sure that is why his car wasn't starting on the first try. We called around to the parts stores, and no one could sell just the check valve. We looked on GM parts direct, and it doesn't show just the check valve. The parts stores want almost 400 for the whole assembly. Any ideas? Can we rig an external check valve? Is there any other cars that share this fuel pump assembly so we can get it either from the dealership, or junkyard?

Isn't the check valve just a rubber washer/ring that kinda acts like a one way valve at the bottom of the canister? Can you gently pull it off, flip it around and reinstall? Either way, it shouldn't make a huge difference, I've installed pumps without canisters, with the bottom of the canisters punched out due to the size of the pump etc and never had an issue. The canister keeps the pump constantly submerged (for cooling/starvation on turns?) and keeps filling up also as the pump runs due to the return fuel line dumping into it.
I like work. It fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours.

So, the check valve isn't what keeps the pump primed?

It probably does but if there is enough fuel in the tank, it'll be primed too
