Red- 1998 Firebird
Fuel Meter problem
ok the car is off right now and the fuel meter indicates that my tank is half full..but when i turn the car on it goes down almost to Eand when i turn it off it goes back to half full......it this normal...is not what could be the problem???

never actually looked at mine, but ive seen a lot of gauges go where they want to when theres no current to them, then register properly when theyre supposed to. why dont you fill the tank and see how much fuel it takes, that will tell you if its accurate with the key on.

Possible problems: 1) poor contact or corroded wiring at the sender; 2) a faulty sender; 3) a faulty gauge; or, 4) a sender problem as a result of the sulfer content in the fuel. Absent an obvious wiring issue, try using Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner.
