    fourth cylinder down..

at first i thought my problem was in the transmission, took it to aamco and thats not the case. Heres whats goin on, rpms will go up, but the speed wont...the car does not want to go, once it hits 55 it starts jumping forward (missing), im just really confused, anyone have any ideas. They also told me the fourth cylinder was down, i have no clue why though.

Ive had the exact problem in my 3.8. mine was number 2 i think. Its a bad coil, there should be 3 of them mounted beside each other, driver side, back of the motor. Theyre about $50 each, and most part stores have them.

When one of mine went bad i freaked out, thought i lost my tranny, but yeah I had those exact symptoms, turns out it was nothing major. troubleshooting, ordering the part, and install was about 4 hours, cots me like $175, but I have a badass shop.

How do they know cyl#4 has a problem? If they scanned the car post the code...if they didn't scan the car bring it somewhere to get it read for free like autozone.

I know the codes. I just cant think of them off the top of my head, P0800 maybe for mutliple cylinder misfire?

after mine went out I bought a code reader, worth the $100.

but yeah, take it to a shop, tell them an ignition coil is out, or if youre brave enough do it yourself. If i had to do it over again, Id do myself, its not hard.

misfires are 300 codes....p0300 for multiple or random then p0301 for cyl. 1, p0302 for cyl. 2 ect ect.

Luos, I wonder if he's describing a really bad miss? Hard to tell from the description.

I'm moving this to the v-6 area.

Im really sure he is, my cylinder 2 had misfired several hundred times in about a mile. I got lucky in the fact that mine went out close to my shop. But yeah, it seriously feels like a tranny going out.

it is a terrible miss, like, you dont wanna pull out in front of anyone whose even somewhat close to you...and they said it had misfired 2000 times.

I would get the codes first and check to see if they are misfire codes. then check the plugs and wires before replacing a coil. if they check out okay, then i would prob. replace the coil the one that is misfiring. If you have a DVOM then i would test the coil first before replacing.
