    EGR removal:friend or foe

I have a 2000 T/A and want to remove the EGR to clean things up but concerned about "Service Engine Soon" light going off, as well as needing a tuner to shut down this function? Can this be done without all this mess? That stupid tube going into my intake sucks!

upgrading to an LS6 intake and doing the removal would be a good idea

or if you just want to !EGR you can get the egr plug (gm part # 12558346)
Thunder Racing has it available for you too...

however as you stated the Serv Eng Soon light will stay on until you have it deleted via whatever means of tuning available... personally Dynotunes are your best bet

Nope. You are going to need a tune.

Maybe you guys can explain this to me...

When you remove the EGR (as I'm planning on doing for the LS6 manifold), doesn't the engine not run properly?? I mean obviously its going to set the SES light, but what I'm referring to is the fact that the computer is figuring in the added airflow coming from the EGR pipe into the manifold, and all of a sudden it just won't be there...

Of does having it disconnected automatically disable the system so that it won't affect anything?? Perhaps someone had the details, thanks.

It will not affect the way it runs at all. The cumputer knows its not working so it doesn't change anything.

Ok cool. Thats what I was hoping. Don't want it to run like shit until I get a tune lol.

You can plug your intake hole with an expandable freezeout plug. Those can be had at any parts store. Deleting the egr won't make it run bad but when I deleted mine I had to adjust my timing tables because I started seeing a little knock. My advice would be that unless you just hate the way it looks or you're going to an ls6 intake to leave it alone.

Yea I'm going with the LS6 intake, so I pretty much have to delete it.

Otherwise I'd just leave it alone, its not not hurting anything.

    Why a tune?

Why a tune? I installed the SLP LS6 w/provisions and have experienced zero problems. I personally wouldn't worry with a tune at this point for only EGR and tune after a few more mods if that is your intention.

Should have mentioned I'm getting LT headers and a True Dual exhaust, along with the LS6 intake. Plus I have 4.10 gears, and I'll be removing the EGR and AIR. I think that calls for a tune

i would get an LS6 without the egr. You will have no issues with the egr gone. I know that you will eventually need to get the codes programmed out but....

The non egr LS6 is cheaper.
Removing the egr looks better in the engine bay.
Removing egr removes air restriction in the manifold opening.
Also shaves about 7lbs out of your car -- every bit helps.
