    driving in 3rd gear???

    is ok 2 drive the ta. in third gear for street use, and "D" gear (4th) for highway??? i have a 4 speed auto trans...,

    trans keeps changin from 4th to 3rd goin less then 45 mph car responds better keepin it in 3rd for better performance but still dunno if is bad for the transmission

    It will probably prolong the life of the transmission... most manuals suggest this.

    I'd strongly recommend the practice of driving around town in D vs. OD. The 700R4 in my '89 Chevy PU has lasted over 218K along with a deep B&M oilpan. Having a 700R4 with that many miles is kind of rare from what I hear.
    I use OD out on the highway and for long drives. Mileage isn't going to be a factor in around town driving IMO. Out on the highway/ freeway it's a different story.
