Dont want to get ripped off
hi guys i recently purchased and paying off my first 99 camaro, i was told it was an ls2 and now wondering if it even is, i cant find the cam sensor on front and dont know where to look for it on back, the egr still looks in place, i just want to find something i could verify if it is or isnt like a vin number or something visual, thanks guys

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
While an LS2 could be put in place of an LS1 chances are it's not.
I'm sure others will chime soon in with more info.

Something I found that I thought was informative.

Also this explains the differences.

Phantom Black Metallic- 2004 GTO M6
There is a stamping on the block. It looks like a VIN. It is on the passenger side in front of the cylinder head if I recall.

thank you i'll deff check that out, i took it to a performance shop and ask the guy im buying it from if he was sure it was a 6.0, i havent had a chance to lift it, but we can see the engine is iron block, and also discovered my heads are not stock but 862...5.3? ugh what a headache this purchase is turning too :/

Others can correct me...but I think if it has 5.3 heads, that bumps up the compression. I could be wrong though. If the car is at a performance shop, then pick their brain and see what other goodies lie under the hood.

How long has that motor been in the car? Oil pump shouldn't have failed with low miles.

the block been on for 1600 miles dont know the time, everything else is the original ls1 far as the dress and all xcept the heads they're 862's , when it heated up knock was loud now u could bearly hear it and just had trouble catching gears and all, after cooled down drove perfectly for two hrs ( didnt want to drive it tht far but didnt want to get stranded lol) , and havent had a chance to put a comp on it to check for codes.

well if it is knocking, I wouldn't be driving it until you diagnosed the problem more. If could be running really lean, which is not good for the motor at all.

Red Tint Jewelcoat- 2008 Trailblazer SS
Valvetrain normally ticks....not knock.
It sounds like something serious in my opinion. Rod knock type thing.
No idea the miles on that bottom end....
No idea who tuned it (if it ever did get tuned) after the motor swap.2008 Trailblazer SS
Yank PTB3600, Kooks 1 7/8" LT's, 4" intake, E-fans, Magnaflow, Sonnax kit, tranny cooler, tune.
Lowered, HID's, tinted.
1999 Pontiac Trans Am WS.6 #1747 SOLD
531.1 RWHP 481.3 FT/Pounds all motor.
