Best brand depends on how much you want to spend + plans for the car.

Different shocks for DD, straight track (1/8, 1/4 mile) vs auto cross.

Bilsteins and Konis (most expensive) are at the top of the list.

On my first car (97 Mustang GT) I installed Bilsteins on that and I would have to say they are way worth the money... Those things alone completely changed my cars performance and ride! I more than likely will be getting those for my Z28!!!

How are you people thinking that we got struts on the front? You've got upper and lower A arms and a coil over shock? The rest of you might have somekinda weird setup but the way I see it is Coilover shocks in the front and regular shocks with seperate coils in the back. I run AFCO DA Terminators Shocks front and rear with 300# springs coilover in the front.

im pretty sure its a strut in tell a coil is placed over it then it is called a "coilover" the coilover without a spring is called a strut! correct me if im wrong...

a quick search of a definition came up with this: (A coilover is an automobile suspension device. "Coilover" is short for "coil spring over strut".)

Well now thats real interesting! So why does JEGS or Summit sell Front Shocks for a 98 Camaro and not Front Struts?

An automotive suspension strut combines the primary function of a shock absorber (as a damper), with the ability to support sideways loads not along its axis of compression, somewhat similar to a sliding pillar suspension, thus eliminating the need for an upper suspension arm. This means that a strut must have a more rugged design, with mounting points near its middle for attachment of such loads.

Like I said we have upper and lower A-Arms.

    Because they are correct technically

Shocks and struts serve the same purpose, to dampen the vibrations of a mechanical system. The difference is that a strut is an integral part of the suspension whereas a shock is just an add on damper. A strut supports the weight of the vehicle, and typically (but not always) replaces the upper control arm and serves as pivots for the steering rack. A shock supports no significant weight and is installed solely to dampen the resonant vibrations of the spring.

When you got to order replacements for the front you get a strut cartridge and for the rear you get a shock. I just did this in Jan when I install my Hotchkins springs. When I took the fronts off I found my drivers front was starting to go (leaking).
