Differential - Is this normal?
I was getting ready to start the installation of the racetronix harness and noticed the exhaust was black right before the differential. The chassis looks black. I took some pics. Is this normal, or do I have a differential leak? If that is the case, what are my options?
Thanks for the help knowledgeable folks.

Yeah 10 bolts are notorious for leaking around the pinion seal. People joke it's a standard gm option.
Mine just leaked onto the rear end and the torque arm it was never enough to get all over the exhaust. I feel like that is more then normal.Last edited by raynor139; 05-14-2016 at 02:40 PM.

Yes looks like a pinion seal leak. Check/monitor your fluid level, it may be nothing more than adding a few ounces a year, especially if you don't notice any dripping on the ground after you park for a few hours.

I have posted at least a dozen times... leaking pinion seal was a factory installed option on these cars.

If it makes you feel any better it's the same on Ford & Dodge vehicles too.
My 8.8 has less then 2000 miles and the damn seal is leaking already.
My Durango same thing...rebuilt it last yr.... pinon seal is leaking.

Thanks for the replies. It is not dripping on the ground. I will lookup how to check the level and keep an eye on it.
