Cruise control problem.. any ideas? Thanks

Hi, My cruise control cuts on and off during use. For example, while driving I will attempt to engage the cruise control and it will not work. I keep trying and finally it does come on. However, a minute or so down the road it cuts off again and may not come back on. I have noticed that a bump in the road will dis-engage the cruise control as well.
Where can I start with trying to figure this out. I hate going to the dealer. Any direction here on what to check first and maybe replace would be great. Thanks again for your help.

I would probably start with the brake switch on the pedal and make sure it's not out of adjustment.

Keep us posted. You never posted what trans you are running. Could possibly be a loose brake switch or harness to the brake switch.

I'm thinking it's related to the wheel rotation sensors. Does your TCS work correctly?

Sorry, I forgot to include those details. It is a 6 spd and does not have traction control. Where exactly is the brake switch on the pedal? I'm going to start there.

Curious to see how this comes out. Mine isn't as bad as yours but does act up. By the way mine acts, I think it's the actual
    switch on the turn signal.
