Coolant flush
The weather is nice so its time to get some work done. The coolant in my Camaro needs changed. I was wondering if there is a particular radiator flush product that works well. Also any suggestion on doing the flush? Disposing of the coolant and water?

Actually.. the factory service manual advises against using a chemical flushing agent. I did ours last spring -- just kept flushing it with water and then pulled the block drains and thermostat housing to flush it a few more times.

Sounds like water it is. Thats what I used on the old cars, just didn't know if any of the new stuff was worth the money. As for disposing of the old coolant. In the past I would put it back in the coolant bottle and the flush water in wiper fluid jugs and put it in the trash. Does anyone recycle this stuff?

you can put coolant in the oil recycling tank at any facility. The recyclers separate it in the cleaning process.
3.Add enough water to fill the coolant system.
4.Run the engine until the thermostat opens.
5.Stop the engine. Repeat the draining procedure until the drained fluid is colorless.
6.Remove, clean, and reinstall the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement.
7.Complete the following steps in order to fill the coolant system:
7.1. Fill the radiator to below the fill neck.
7.2. Fill the coolant recovery reservoir to the FULL HOT mark.
7.3. Install the coolant recovery reservoir cap.
8.With the radiator pressure cap removed, run the engine until normal operating temperature is reached. The radiator inlet hose will become hot.
9.With the engine idling, add coolant to the radiator until the coolant level reaches the bottom of the fill neck.
10.Install the pressure cap.
11.After the engine reaches normal operating temperature, check for coolant leaks.Last edited by DaddySS; 03-21-2010 at 05:02 AM.
