Exclamation Constant hesitation after load, need assistance!!

    Hello Everyone,

I've been getting a bit frustrated with my 94 Firebird 3.4. It sounds like "putputputput" lol COUGH, A "putter machine" after I put it in drive and take off, usually after 2k rpms and stays that way till I restart the engine. I've installed new plug n wires and a cam sensor hoping that would help but nope! Keep in mind the car runs fine till I put a certain amount of load on it... I've taken to 2 shops in town and they couldn't find the problem. Plus the security light does stay on constantly however the engine light doesn't come on. ANY IDEAS?

Have you replaced the fuel filter?

The opti could also be the culprit.

have you scan for codes? I know that you don't have a light but it might have some codes stored in the memory. Some codes don't throw a light. Does it idle okay?

if the filter is clogged it will create fuel pressure issues. You can check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge at the fuel rail. there is a port there. the fuel pressure needs to be 58-60 psi. If you haven't replace the filter in a while is a good idea to so. The way gas is these days they get clogged easy. i change mine every 7k -10k miles.

Not sure on how to test the opt. im sure some more will chime in.

No I havnt scan for codes yet, will stop at advance auto tmw to do that for my next step for my needle in the hay stack. The idle on the other hand when I first start it seems it wants to die... I do have a smart phone so I could take a video of the idle if u like??

Running rich would suggest a problem more towards the opti - no spark to burn the fuel. Not saying it is the problem, but I would look in that direction.

make sure its not the MAF, if it idles bad u can usually hit it a few times with like a screw driver handle, if it getts better uve found ur culprit, also it could be a vacuum leak potentially.

Ok so no codes came up on the scan tool, however the guy said he couldn't check the egr stats or anything else so he assumed the computer is bad

Hmm so update, I flushed out the heater core for the first time this year to get the heater to work. All that came out was brown goop, odd huh.. but afterwards here's the kicker, before the car fumbled about 2k load or 20 mph n now its fumbling around 35-40mph and or 4k load... I wonder if I flush the whole system it would clear the beast of this illness

I had a similar problem in my 95 3.4. It ended up being the coil pack mounting plate getting warped over time allowing moisture and dirt between the coil packs and ignition module beneath it. After cleaning the gunk out, I cutout 1 or 2mm thick rubber sheets to match the bottom of the coil packs, cut slits for the ignition module prongs and sandwiched the rubber gasket cutout between the coil packs and module. Problem solved. Try it for a couple of bucks in rubber sheets.

I recommend that you do a whole system flush but i don't think is related to your issue. Have you check for vaccum leaks?

Brown goop is from your coolant going bad, and since the heater core has some pretty tight places, it typically suffers the worst.

I'd get the whole system flushed, but I don't think that could be causing your issue.

I've replaced the vacuum hoses by the tb 3 years due to a vacuum leak, they've been holding so far from what I can hear...
