    Check engine light is flashing

The other night coming home the check engine light on my 99 Z-28 started to flash. So I took it easy and got it home, went up to Auto Zone and found #3 cylinder miss firing. I have replaced the coil, plug, wire and now the injector on that cylinder. At light throttle it still has the miss can even fell it. But under heavy throttle it runs like a champ. the car has 129,000 miles all stock. Last year I put new wires and plugs in, MSD wires and a good set of plugs.

What did you gap the plug at? Is your wire on good and tight? No burns or breaks.

A melted o2 sensor wire on my car after my header install caused a similar issue it only mis-fired on #5. I also had a 02 code but my point is if the readings are bad it can cause only 1 cylinder mis-fire code.

Right now all I have is the mis-fire code. I did put NGK plugs in. There are no burn makes and the wire ohms out good. Also the wire is on good and tight.

with all of those items swapped, it's about time for a compression and leakdown test. Have you pulled the valve covers and inspected the rockers and springs for that cyl?

Just did a compression test. It has 160psi. So I don't see a need to pull the valve cover. At least this time the plug was not wet when I pulled it out this time.

The coil was the first thing that was replaced. Going out to move the new coil to another cylinder and run up to Auto Zone and see if the miss moved.

Harness to the coil? Bad ground?

the test and pulling the cover aren't the same thing... what if you have an issue with an exhaust rocker? The cylinder will test fine but... just trying to be thorough. What was the leakdown result of that cylinder?

Ok just moved coil #3 to #1 cylinder, on the way up to Auto Zone the light starts to flash again. This time the miss shows up on #7 cylinder. Checked the plug wire and it is tight. So this car is driving me up the wall now.

I assume P0300 is going off as well.

Did you check the O2 wire/connection? It sounds like it is something on bank 1.

    SUNSET ORANGE
    2002 CAMARO SS

I am having the same problem with my 2002 ss. I took it out today to wash it and drove it arround the block and the check engine light started blinking. The car seemed to have plenty of power but was puffing white smoke and it smelled really bad. I got it home fine and the light is now on steady. The car is going to the dealer to be put on the diagnostic machine tomorrow. I hope it is not something serious. Someone please help. Any possible diagnosis from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Well I belive that the rocker arms and push rods are ok, noise the would cause consern at this time. The other day I moved the coil pack for #3 cylinder to #1 cylinder, before I could go 3 miles to Auto Zone the light was flashing. This time I have a #7 miss fire. When I get home for the weekend I'm going to move the #7 coil and take it for another ride to see if the miss move's. This car is really driving me up the wall at this time. I have checked the o2 sensor wires and conctors and all looks good.

Tonight I checked the fuel injector on #7 found that it was working good. So I moved the coil pack to another cylinder. The miss didn't move so I went to remove the plug wire to put another on and the spark plug broke in half with ease. So after replacing the spark plug again the miss is gone and the car runs great. Thanks to all that gave ideals on what to look for.
