    Cheap HP Upgrade?

I have a 2000 Trans Am. I got 3.73 gears, high flow converters, and a catback system from Magnaflow, and I got a tune on the motor. Other than the tune the motor and tranny are stock. I run a consistent 13.6 all day. I want to get in the mid 12's without a lot of money. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do that.

Well if you are an A4 car a stall will be your biggest bang for the buck. Otherwise I would do headers. But neither one of these will get you 12.5 from where you are.....

How much money do you have to throw at your car? What do you define "cheap" as?

you should be going faster than that with 3.73's. I have the factory gears and am also an a4 and run close to that bone stock.

he should be close to that now. SFC's, full exhaust and 3.73's and slicks on factory wheels put my friend at 13.1 after the 4,000 stall(too high in opinion) he went 12.6

What I mean by cheap is less than $1,000. I don't want to spend that kind of money and only gain .300 on my quarter mile time.

Best bang for under 1K is headers. You're going to have to dump more than 1k to get to where you want to be I'm afraid.

Headers and an ORY are you best bet

If you wanna get a little help off the line and help your ET for a decent price get some LCA relocation brackets
Should drop your 60' and lower your ET

Not everyone is going to run the same at the track. Several factors will come into play. What was the weather like when he ran? What was the condition of the track? Did he use street tires? What is the DA? How much track experience does he have?

Like Tater said, the 60' time will tell everything. I don't think that 13.6 is THAT out of whack, but he should probably be running a little quicker.

Bottom line is he still isn't going to be in the mid 12's with what he is looking to spend.

I guess everyone's point could be that if he should be running 13.2 (for sake of argument) and he is running 13.6 (.4 slower) if he wants to run 12.5 he would almost need an 11 sec car to do so

Like 35th said the DA has a HUGE effect on ET.

Running at a track at higher altitude is going to be slower than a track closer to sea level in the exact same car.

Do headers and y-pipe and also if you can find out your DA someone on here can tell you if you are running slow or close to right on for your area.

that is the best bang for the buck... no other single mod unless you break in to the motor will give you gains like that... you could also get N20 but to set that up right it will also cost $1,000.00 or more...

why not get a shift kit???

    Yank SS TC = $725
    Transgo shift kit = $70-$80
Labor = $500 (unless you can do it).

^^^^^^best bang for buck^^^^^^ Should be worth .5
