We could use a little mor einformation. Ifcourse with your A/C you'll lose a little power. However I don't even think its enough for you to notice it. So you must be having more issues. Please give us some more information.

Yes hot weather and a/c definately makes huge difference I can tell in all my cars from winter to summer, A/c takes 10-15 hp and lack of density in hot air probably takes another 10 easy. You should be able to tell difference between how the car performs in cold or hot climate if you really know your car. This is assuming you have no other problems.
The most devastating effect for me has been not only heat in nm but 4000 density altitude added like a second to my quarter mile time compared to sea level in louisiana!

seat of pants impressions are hard to analyze, its almost like a mind trick because the car seems to get slower over time just cause you are used to it. Take car out on cool summer night with a/c off and then drive in hot day with a/c on and you will be able to tell for sure without a doubt. Good luck.
Aw shucks just go buy a turbo or supercharger and you will have all the air density you will need LOL! If only it were that easy right.

at idle when you turn on the ac, does it get rough? like it might stall? cleaning the throttle body and maf might help.

Well when my fuel pump was going out. If turn A/C on from dead stop and try to give it gas it would bog down.

also compressor cylcles off when at wot, so should only notice a/c at part throttle.

I live on a tropical island, so I can tell a significant change in performance during the day and night. The a/c only has a slight difference at night, but during the day.....car runs like crap.....compared to how it should run, but still allot better than most cars.

Whether AC is on or not, doesn't just having the system take away some power by adding resistance to the system? Or is this just on older cars?

When the system is off and a/c clutch disengaged you are only looking at rotational mass of pulley which is a very insignifigant parasitic loss. The only thing slowing you down for the most part when a/c is off is the weight of the system which isnt too bad. I'm shooting for tens with my new 6.0/NOS combo and still am leaving my a/c. I did many other weight reductions, but its a street car and a/c is beautiful here in NM in the summer.
