car is eating oil...
is this normal in an aluminum motor? i mean is it eating it on start up till it warms? i dont notice it white smoking, but the cats could potentionally be burning it... when i first got the car it was fine... this oil change its has already burned through a quart and a half... and the low level light came on last night so i figure its about a quart and a half low again. thats 3 quarts and i still have 44% left on this oil change (though im about to change it any way for winter)
is it just because i drive it hard? is this just an ls1 thing... WTF? i run mobil 10-4 in it...
p.s. car only had 41k on it...

Just basing it on my experience Id say yeah...LS1's eat oil. I run through about a quart and a half every 3k miles and I baby the thing. It sounds like a clattering piston slapping bucket of bolts but still runs like a bat outta hell at 80k miles.

um change the pcv valve, a catch can, and a oil breather will fix that right up.

alright... as long as i know it pretty normal its cool ill just make sure i keep an eye on it more closely than what i normally would and buy a few extra quarts when i get oil... ill look into the pcv/catch can/oil breather this winter... my car really doesnt have too terrible piston slap... what causes the oil consumption in these cars?

I go through about 1 1/2 qts also...and the catch can gets about 1/4 full every 3500 miles so it's a ls1 thing

it has to do with the vaccum of the pcv valve being to strong so it sucks up oil into the combustion chamber! well at least some of the problem.
