Can't find PCV part! (w/o buying full assembly)
Ok, this is ridiculous. I need the rubber boot that fits around the PCV valve on a 1999 Trans Am. GM will only sell it as a set, so, from them, $111 for the whole assembly just so that I can have one rubber boot. From gmpartsdirect.com it is about half the price, but still, this is crazy.
Does anyone know of a different way to try to get a hold of this part, without buying extra parts that I don't need to replace?
On the GM diagrams showing the intake manifold, it is part 591. It is literally what the PCV valve is placed into. It is a rubber boot, and there is a small slit on the side for some sort of engine block electrical ground to fit into.
Thanks!
Nick

have you tried taking it to any of the auto parts stores and see if they have any that match that or that part I would go to an auto parts store and give them the part number and see if they have them!!

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
where did you find a picture? I completely replaced my PCV with braided hoses and i can't tell what you're talking about? I looked on GMpartsdirect and they don't have an illustration.

The picture was a printout from the dealer of an exploded view. It is a part of the assembly that gmpartsdirect.com has...
It is literally the rubber boot / grommet that the PCV valve fits into, on my car is it located about 3-4 inches to the left of the intake manifold, and the rubber tube actually connects to the left side of the intake manifold.

No luck on auto parts stores... They all say it is a dealer only part. I ended up getting a random PCV valve which had 1/2 inch in/out so that I could replace it, but my car has not been running very well lately and I think that the fact that I am not using the correct PCV valve probably has at least a little to do with it. :|

Great, I will try to take one tonight. Do you have an extra one or something? It basically looks like the shape of a beer bottle with a small slit on the wider side...
I just realized, I don't have the thing any more. I tossed it when I hooked up my quick fix using a different PCV valve and rubber hoses...

This is also what I attempted to do, but I couldn't use the same (correct) valve, I am using one that had a male connector on both ends. Thus, I think it is really screwing with how my car is acting.
I think this is great, I am going to try to do what you did and see if it works for me.
Thanks!
PS, my rubber boot looked exactly the same as yours, all burnt up in one spot. :|

Did you ever figure out why they have the electrical ground? Does it actually benefit the PCV, or was it placed there just because it was close to where they needed it?

i dont' think that's a ground, I think that's just there to hold it in place.

Is there a big difference between the normal PCV valve with the larger opening and then smaller opening version?
Which is better?
