C-5 oil change
what's the proper fill level with an oem ac filter? the 6.5 qt. fill leaves the level on the dipstick about 1/2 qt. low. what's right, 6.5 qt., or fill it to full on the stick?

I would go with the 6.5 qts. Yours holds 6.5? I thought all LS1 V8s held 5.5-6 qts.

fill too full on stick. The amount of oil needed can vary slightly, but generally it's around 6.5 qts. Some owners put up to 7 qts in, but you need to check how much your vette needs. I'd start with 6.5 qts, then check the level after letting the engine run for a minute or two and then off for a few minutes (to allow the oil to drain back into the oil pan).
As for the filter, I personally prefer Mobil1.

it' in the oil pan design. these have a wing type pan.
that's normal procedure, after all is said and done sitting level with 6.5 qt. in it shows mid-way between add and full on the stick. i didn't know if that's common and i should stick to 6.5, or put 7 in to bring it to full on the stick. too much oil is bad.
either way, something isn't right, either the stick is off, or the 6.5 is just to start, with the final top off decided by the stick.
most anything else i service shows full at whatever the book calls for.
i guess my biggest concern is not putting too much oil in. there could be variations in the dipstick:tube not pressed in the whole way, something not right at the handle end, which could cause a false low reading.Last edited by dklowrider; 12-06-2009 at 06:26 AM.
