That's a lot. You put in at least 5.5 quarts right? My helms says the low oil light will illuminate when about 2 quarts low.

Sounds like it may not have been full to begin with. As stated, our cars take over 5 quarts. When you say "halfway low", I assume you meant that the oil level is halfway between the marks on the dipstick?

    Thumbs up

Always remember that the oil filter sucks up some oil. usually .5 litres. NEVER check your oil after changing the oil and think its where it will be. Change your Oil, fire the car up, let it sit and then check it.

If its still between the add and the full marks, don't worry yet. Wait until its at or below the add mark. Then add oil until its full again and figure out miles it takes to burn one quart.
Oil comsumption is considered excessive at more than 1 quart in 2000 miles for normal driving. If you are going WOT alot then the acceptable oil consumption goes up a bit

You mean it's down 1/2 quart?

First I would check it again after a few weeks to be sure. Then pull the throttle body if it's still using and see if you have oil in the inatke. If so, put a catch can on there.

Check your exhaust tips, if you are burning oil you will get a residue (not the black carbon).

Just something our cars are known to suffer from. Have you considered a catch can?

A catch can is installed in the PCV system and separates the oil out so that it does not enter your intake.

Nope. Just needs a catch can! Go over to the external section and do a search on catch cans and you can see how to hook one up.

It is somewhat normal - do a search on catch cans and you'll get a ton of info.

It is a pretty simple fix. I need to check our car's intake tract sometime to see how it looks. I don't seem to have any oil loss issues and have never noticed any blue smoke. There is also a later model PCV valve that can be swapped in. My understanding is that it has a smaller orifice (maybe 0.10") than the stock valve and is supposed to cut down on this problem.
